"Hyperscale" gets thrown around a lot. It means something specific: the giant, warehouse-scale campuses built by (or for) the handful of companies whose platforms serve billions of people.

The plain definition

A hyperscale data center is a facility built to run one organisation's workload at enormous scale — think Amazon, Google, Microsoft or Meta — designed so capacity can expand almost without limit by adding identical buildings. Where a traditional enterprise data center might hold hundreds of servers, hyperscale campuses hold hundreds of thousands.
